Web Application Chapter 5 page 191

Keyword: contributions Primary URL: www.ssa.gov

Note: The Blockbuster Web Application with the keyword "wages" is a prerequisite for this Web Application.

For this exercise look at www.ssa.gov/employer_info/quick_ref_guide.html and verify the Social Security and Medicare tax rate by reading the wage and tax base for the current year. You will need this information to complete the following exercises:

  1. Refer back to the Blockbuster Web application (keyword "wages") that precedes this one.

  2. Deduct the percent of Social Security and Medicare tax from Natasha's gross earnings. If there are no other deductions from her gross earnings, what will be her net pay? If the Social Security and Medicare tax rates are different on the Web site than it is in your textbook, use the rate found on the Web site.

Please include with your answer the date you visited the Web site.

Fun fact: Did you know that the first three numbers of a Social Security number signifies the state in which the number was issued? Check it out at www.ssa.gov/employer_info/quick_ref_guide.html under Verification of Social Security Numbers.
