Web Application Chapter 13 page 577

Keyword: comprehensive Primary URL: www.traderjoes.com

The Web Applications in Chapter 13 deal with some actual applied problems and some fact-finding problems. Some of the preceding Web Applications will be used in this section.

1. Point your browser to www.traderjoes.com. From the Trader Joe's homepage, select Choosing and Using Our Products. Examine the list of products offered. Do any of the items meet the requirements of items that can be used for depreciation expense?

2. In section 13.2 on page 546, the Web Application "valued" used declining-balance to calculate the depreciation for the church van. Using the same information from that section, recalculate the depreciation using the straight-line method.

3. In the Summary exercise for Chapter 13 on page 577 in your textbook, Trader Joe's purchased a freezer case. If Trader Joe's wanted to benefit from a larger amount of depreciation expense in the earlier years of owning the freezer, should Trader Joe's use the straight-line or the double-declining-balance method of depreciation?

Include the section to which each answer is referring. Be sure to answer questions in complete-sentences, and provide support for your answers.
